‘Secret Invasion’ Coming to Disney Plus on June 21
The Disney Plus site has revealed that the upcoming Marvel event series Secret Invasion will be premiering on the service on June 21.
The new series, from showrunner Kyle Bradstreet and directors Thomas Bezucha and Ali Selim, will act as a limited series centered around Samuel L. Jackson’s Nick Fury and Ben Mendelsohn’s Talos, plus a Skrull invasion on Earth. Plot specifics remain under wraps, but the series has enlisted an all-star ensemble that includes Kingsley Ben-Adir, Emilia Clarke, Olivia Colman, Killian Scott, Christopher McDonald, Cobie Smulders as Maria Hill, Don Cheadle as James Rhoades, and Martin Freeman in his recurring MCU role as Agent Ross. We wouldn’t be surprised if other major heroes from the MCU show up.
Secret Invasion seems to be the next chapter in a grittier MCU subplot that may have Don Cheadle as an anchor point. The actor already appeared in 2021’s The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, and will have his solo film in Armor Wars. More appearances like in Captain America: New World Order or even Ironheart, or even the reportedly-in-development Vision Quest could be in order. He has previously teased that the events of Secret Invasion will directly set up Armor Wars, a movie that could begin production within the next couple of months (possibly aiming at current vacancies in the 2025 Marvel Studios schedule).
Secret Invasion will be the first Marvel Studios show to debut on Disney Plus this year. Recently, Owen Wilson let it slip that Loki season 2 (which was teased in one of Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania‘s post-credits scenes) could be coming during the end of the summer or September. For now, those are the only two Marvel series guaranteed to be coming out this year on Disney Plus. Echo could also be in line to arrive during the fall, as star Alaqua Cox teased on social media, and Ironheart is also awaiting a release date. Both series are in post-production. Meanwhile, Agatha: Coven of Chaos and Daredevil: Born Again are both filming at the moment.
Miguel Fernández is a Spanish student that has movies as his second passion in life. His favorite movie of all time is The Lord of the Rings, but he is also a huge Star Wars fan. However, fantasy movies are not his only cup of tea, as authors like Scorsese, Fincher, Kubrick or Hitchcock have been an obsession for him since he started to understand the language of filmmaking. He is that guy who will watch a black and white movie, just because it is in black and white.
