Marvel Studios Has Had Informal Discussions About a Potential Fourth ‘Ant-Man’ Film
Another Ant-Man film after Quantumania is not entirely out of the question, as apparently some potential story ideas have been floated around. However, with the packed schedule that Marvel has, it’s probably not going to happen any time soon.
Speaking to ComicBook.com, producer Stephen Broussard confirmed that conversations have happened inside Marvel Studios about a potential fourth entry in the sub-franchise, but so far, there is nothing set in stone. He said:
“We’re already thinking about it. It’s like, every movie’s its own battle and you bear the scars of making it and wanting to make it great. But hope springs eternal and you start to put yourself back together after the journey of making the movie. You’re like, ‘Yeah, what if we did X and what if we did Y?’ Like the wheels start turning, you can’t help yourself. I don’t want to say anything about specifically what those are, but yeah, you can’t help yourself. Those conversations, those whispers have already started to happen between myself and Peyton and Kevin.”
There is, of course, precedent for character franchises inside the Marvel Universe going into four films. Just last year we got Thor: Love and Thunder, and in a matter of weeks, Captain America: New World Order will begin principal photography. It’s true that there is a major difference between the first three Captain America films and New World Order, particularly when it comes to the main character’s alter ego. Additionally, Sony is reportedly in the early stages of developing a fourth Spider-Man movie with Tom Holland under their collaboration with Marvel Studios, and in the vein of Captain America 4, Armor Wars, which is also set to begin production this April, will essentially be an unofficial Iron Man 4.
These conversations are not very rare whenever a new Marvel movie comes out. Kevin Feige also revealed around the release date of Black Panther: Wakanda Forever that they had had unofficial conversations regarding a Black Panther threequel (though director Ryan Coogler wouldn’t even dare to think about that when asked), and both Taika Waititi and Chris Hemsworth said they wouldn’t mind returning for a fifth Thor film.
For now, the third Ant-Man film has a lot to juggle. Between introducing the Quantum Realm in full force and presenting the main villain of the ongoing Multiverse Saga in Jonathan Majors’ Kang the Conqueror, Quantumania is a very important film for Marvel Studios. Early reactions tease an overall fun and exciting trip through the smallest civilizations in the universe, as well as some answers regarding where the entire franchise is heading.
We will get to experience it on our own in just a few days, when it opens in theaters on February 17.
Miguel Fernández is a Spanish student that has movies as his second passion in life. His favorite movie of all time is The Lord of the Rings, but he is also a huge Star Wars fan. However, fantasy movies are not his only cup of tea, as authors like Scorsese, Fincher, Kubrick or Hitchcock have been an obsession for him since he started to understand the language of filmmaking. He is that guy who will watch a black and white movie, just because it is in black and white.
