Harrison Ford Reportedly Joins ‘Captain America: New World Order’ as Thunderbolt Ross

The cast for the upcoming Captain America: New World Order just got a major upgrade, with Harrison Ford reportedly joining the ensemble as Secretary Thaddeus E. “Thunderbolt” Ross.

In a recent episode of The Hot Mic, industry insider Jeff Sneider gave the audience an update on a story he’d heard a few weeks ago about Harrison Ford potentially playing Thunderbolt Ross in the upcoming Thunderbolts movie. Apparently, that may not be the case… as it seems like Ford will indeed be playing the character in another prior movie, Julius Onah’s Captain America: New World Order.

Sneider said:

“A couple of shows ago, we talked about the rumor of Harrison Ford [being] either offered ‘Thunderbolts’ or, you know, had already passed on it potentially. I hadn’t gotten a confirmation. But I wonder if I asked the wrong question. I think I asked the question ‘I’m told Harrison Ford has been cast as Thunderbolt in Thunderbolts’. I don’t know if that’s the case yet. I don’t know that they have that deal done yet. But there’s another deal. I hear that Harrison Ford has, in fact, closed a deal to play General Thunderbolt Ross, and that the movie is ‘Captain America 4’. That’s what I’ve heard. I’ve heard it’s a done deal.”

The role had been previously played by legendary actor William Hurt, who passed away earlier this year. Apparently, that happened when Marvel had plans to include the character in at least two movies, as it’s a foregone conclusion that he will also be in Thunderbolts (though Julia Louis Dreyfus’ Val may take the central spot as the team leader). It’s unknown whether he will appear in more projects of the current Multiverse Saga.

Captain America: New World Order is currently scheduled for a May 3, 2024, release date. Thunderbolts will hit theaters on July 26, 2024.

Harrison Ford will next be seen in next year’s Indiana Jones 5.
