‘Daredevil: Born Again’ Adds Michael Gandolfini, Margarita Levieva & Sandrine Holt

Casting for Daredevil: Born Again is moving fast and furious, with three new actors reported to be joining the show in key roles.

According to Deadline, Margarita Levieva (The Deuce) and Sandrine Holt (American Gigolo) have been cast in major roles in the series. Though details are being kept under wraps, sources tell the trade they may be playing the love interests of the two leads, Charlie Cox’s Matt Murdock and Vincent D’Onofrio’s Wilson Fisk (respectively). Additionally, Michael Gandolfini (The Many Saints of Newark) is also joining the cast, as Deadline reported last week.

The latest rumors on Daredevil: Born Again

According to Murphy’s Multiverse, the series has also signed Colin Woodell (The Flight Attendant) for just one season (insider Daniel Richtman is pointing out he’ll be a villain in the show), while Gandolfini, son of The Sopranos actor James Gandolfini, has signed a multi-season/project deal with Marvel Studios. He is rumored to be playing Richard Fisk aka Kingpin’s son. The nature of the contract points to more Daredevil-centric future in the MCU beyond the first season of Born Again.

If Levieva and Holt are indeed playing the love interests of the two leads, that would probably point towards the recasting of at least Ayelet Zurer as Vanessa. Both Deborah Ann Woll and Elden Henson have been rumored for a long time to have signed with Marvel Studios to reprise their roles as Karen and Foggy respectively, though no official word has transpired yet. However, during a recent appearance at German Comic Con, Cox made it sound like they will not be a part of the new series. In an interview last month, Deborah Ann Woll also confirmed that Marvel hasn’t called yet. If the love interest rumors pan out, it’s also interesting that the MCU is quickly moving on from the Matt & Jen relationship established in She-Hulk.

Other rumors regarding Born Again point to White Tiger making her MCU debut in a major capacity in the series. Speaking at a recent convention, Vincent D’Onofrio himself hyped up the upcoming series when he said the following:

“But I will say, though, that you guys have no idea what you are in store for in ‘Born Again’. And I know a little bit more than you guys, and all I can say is that during that next series you’re not gonna be able to think about anything other than the next episode.”

Filming and release details

Production on Daredevil: Born Again is set to begin in New York City in February 2023 and will last through December, targeting a release date sometime in 2024. It’s confirmed to be 18 episodes long. Covert Affairs co-creators Matt Corman and Chris Ord are on board as writers and executive producers. Both Cox and D’Onofrio are confirmed to be appearing next in the upcoming Disney Plus series Echo, which will see Alaqua Cox reprise the role of Maya López. That show is currently targeting a summer 2023 release on Disney Plus.
