‘Echo’: The Hollywood Reporter Confirms Charlie Cox and Vincent D’Onofrio Are Coming Back

Matt Murdock and Wilson Fisk to appear in Echo

In a not-so-shocking plot twist, The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed that Matt Murdock (a.k.a. Daredevil) and Wilson Fisk (a.k.a. The Kingpin) will appear in the upcoming Echo Disney Plus series, which is currently in production in Atlanta.

Charlie Cox and Vincent D’Onofrio will be back in their respective roles, though it is unknown whether they will have a confrontation, especially since this is not a story about either of them. D’Onofrio’s return was written all over the wall after last December, and multiple rumors swirled over the past few months about this. According to some reliable Marvel scoopers, the actor had filmed for a few weeks in spring, and is now back on set for additional filming.

Cox’s return was also widely rumored, and it will probably set up his own series after his cameo in Spider-Man: No Way Home. A new Daredevil series for Disney Plus set in the MCU will go into production next year, from Cover Affairs co-creators Matt Corman and Chris Ord. There is also some speculation about Cox showing up in the upcoming She-Hulk, which Kevin Feige had teased in December 2020 would feature several cameos from all over the MCU. Marvel already revealed earlier this year that Benedict Wong would be back for the series, in addition to previously announced Tim Roth and Mark Ruffalo.

Echo is bringing back Alaqua Cox as Maya López. The cast includes Chaske Spencer (Wild IndianThe English), Tantoo Cardinal (Killers of the Flower MoonStumptown), Devery Jacobs (FX’s Reservation DogsAmerican Gods), and Cody Lightning (Hey, Viktor!Four Sheets to the Wind), with Graham Greene (1883Goliath) and Zahn McClarnon (Dark Winds, FX’s Reservation Dogs). Sydney Freeland (Navajo) and Catriona McKenzie (Gunaikurnai) will direct episodes of the series, with Etan Cohen and Emily Cohen writing and executive producing the show. Here’s the official synopsis:

“Streaming exclusively on Disney, the origin story of Echo revisits Maya Lopez, whose ruthless behavior in New York City catches up with her in her hometown. She must face her past, reconnect with her Native American roots and embrace the meaning of family and community if she ever hopes to move forward.”
