‘Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness’ Spot Reveals New Cameo, Wanda Featurette Released, and More

Benedict Cumberbatch as Doctor Strange

A new 15-second spot for the upcoming Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness has been released, giving us a new look at a few characters that will be appearing through the Multiverse. In addition, Marvel has also released a featurette focused on Wanda Maximoff.

Though this is part of the marketing, we would like to raise a minor spoiler alert, as the new spot teases a character that hadn’t been seen yet, and gives a new look at two others that had been teased in previous marketing materials. If you are still interested, watch it here:

The new character is, of course, Captain Carter, who is seen in the magnificent poster for the movie that was released in February, but who had not appeared in any previously-released footage from the movie. The folks at Marvel Studios are clearly very confident in what they have, as they are revealing stuff left and right in the most recent spots. In addition, the promo also offers a new look at Professor X’s yellow chair, and includes a new line from the character, though we have yet to see Patrick Stewart’s face. And lastly, we get new footage from the Captain Marvel variant who had appeared before.

The studio also released a new featurette focused on Elizabeth Olsen’s Wanda/Scarlett Witch. It includes Marvel Studios chief Kevin Feige, director Sam Raimi, and Benedict Cumberbatch discussing the character and Olsen’s portrayal. It also includes a few new shots from the movie. Check it out below:

In other Doctor Strange-related news, Benedict Cumberbatch confirmed to Total Film that the evil Doctor Strange variant seen at the end of the teaser trailer is not the same character from the animated What If…? series. He said:

“[‘Multiverse of Madness’s’ Sinister Strange] is nothing that you’ve seen before. ‘What If…?’ is a beautiful riff of a potential. And this is something different.”

That series, which premiered last year on Disney Plus, introduced an alternate version of Doctor Strange that, instead of losing his hands, lost his heart — Rachel McAdams’ Christine Palmer. That version of the character was eventually corrupted and became Doctor Strange Supreme. He shares some looks with the version that appears in the Multiverse of Madness trailers though.

In the same interview, Sam Raimi also told the magazine that, while no surprise in a Marvel movie will be able to top having all three Spider-Men in one frame, Multiverse of Madness does have some exciting reveals:

“I don’t think anything can rival the surprise in a Spider-Man movie of having the previous two Spider-Men appear with the current one. I mean, I don’t think we’re going to top them on that! But our film does have other surprises and other interesting revelations.”

Spider-Man: No Way Home

And last but not least, we’ve learned about two new actresses in the movie. The movie was going to be banned in Saudi Arabia after Disney refused to cut a few lines of dialogue in which América Chávez referred to her “two moms”, and the actresses that will be playing those characters have been revealed.

According to One Take News, Ruth Livier and Chess López will be playing Elena and Amalia respectively. It’s very unlikely they will be in the movie for more than one scene, since the story has a lot of ground to cover and less than two hours to do so, but it’s nice that Raimi was able to find some time to dive a bit deeper into Chávez’s family. We will learn more about them when the movie finally comes out a week from now.

Stay tuned for more news from Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. We will be posting our review after its opening weekend, too.
