‘Echo’ Disney Plus Series To Begin Shooting Soon

Echo

Echo lead actress Alaqua Cox posted an Instagram story on Wednesday, April 20, hinting that production on the upcoming series will begin today.

In the image, Cox thanked Reservation Dogs star Devery Jacobs for sending flowers ahead of the principal photography start. She wrote:

“@kdeveryjacobs decided to surprise me with these beautiful flowers before the first day of filming tomorrow.”

Echo was reported to be in development last year, a few months before Hawkeye debuted on Disney Plus. The platform officially announced the spin-off series on Disney Plus Day, and also revealed the official logo for it (see header image). Not much else is known at this point, besides the fact that Etan Cohen and Emily Cohen are writing and executive producing the show. The Direct reported recently that veteran actor Graham Greene is joining the cast.

Vincent D’Onofrio, who reprised his role as Kingpin in the Hawkeye series, is also rumored to return as Maya’s uncle, as is Charlie Cox as Daredevil/Matt Murdock. This does come as a surprise, as we all thought the next Disney Plus series from Marvel Studios to start rolling would be Ironheart, this June. That show has been casting for a few months now, and was just reported to have hired its directors. Since Alaqua Cox does not have other officially announced projects in the pipeline, we assume she is referring to Echo, but we haven’t had any official confirmation yet.

Alaqua Cox’s Maya López was introduced in the Hawkeye series. Echo will be the first project from Marvel Studios headlined by a Native American, who also happens to be a deaf amputee. With this piece of news, the 2023 Disney Plus schedule for Marvel Studios is starting to clear up. If Echo is indeed going into production today, we will at least be seeing Secret Invasion, Ironheart, Echo, and Loki season 2 next year. Another spin-off series, Agatha: House of Darkness could also start rolling cameras soon.

Armor Wars is another project that could be going into production later this year, maybe making it to 2023. The Don Cheadle-starring series hired its head writer last year, which is always a good sign. Incidentally, the show was not mentioned among the upcoming roster back in November 2021 during Disney Plus Day. Stay tuned for more news on the upcoming Disney Plus shows from Marvel Studios.
