‘Game of Thrones’ Spinoff ‘10,000 Ships’ a Go at HBO Max, Amanda Segel Attached to Write

Game of Thrones

More Game of Thrones spin-off shows continue to be developed at HBO Max, with the latest one, 10,000 Ships, now having a writer attached to pen the entire series.

A couple of months ago, news came out that HBO Max was developing several new shows set in Westeros in addition to House of the Dragon, which is currently shooting. One of them was titled 10,000 Ships and said to tell the story of Princess Nymeria and the surviving members of the Rhoynars, who traveled from Essos to Dorne following their defeat by the Valyrian Freehold in the Second Spice War. This happened 1,000 years before the events depicted in Game of Thrones.

Now, according to a new report from Deadline, it looks like Amanda Segel, from Hulu’s Helstrom and Person of Interest, has been hired to write the series. It should be pointed out however, that the outlet is only certain that Segel has been tapped to write one of the shows, and their best guess is that it will be 10,000 Ships.

Other shows coming up include Tales of Dunk and Egg (which was reported to be a high priority for the studio), 9 Voyages (aka Sea Snakes), from TV veteran Bruno Heller, and Flea Bottom, which has no creatives attached yet. This last one was in the same state as Ships was a few days ago, just an idea stuck in a wall inside HBO Max. Additionally, the streaming platform also announced it would be developing an animated prequel series.

The next Game of Thrones spin-off coming our way will be House of the Dragon, which has received a series order and is supposedly being released next year. It stars Paddy Considine (Viserys Targaryen), Olivia Cooke (Alicent Hightower), Emma D’Arcy (Rhaenyra Targaryen), and Matt Smith (Daemon Targaryen), among many others. Miguel Sapochnik and Ryan Condal will serve as co-showrunners and as executive producers along with George R.R. Martin and Vince Gerardis. Sara Lee Hess will also serve as writer and executive producer alongside Rom Schmidt. Sapochnik, a GoT veteran, is directing the pilot and additional episodes. Clare Kilner (The Alienist), Greg Yaitanes (Castle Rock), and Geeta Patel (The Witcher) will also serve as directors.
