‘Game of Thrones’: Three New HBO Max Series in the Works

Game of Thrones

Game of Thrones is not going anywhere.

Variety is reporting that HBO Max is developing three additional spin-offs besides House of the Dragon, which will start shooting very soon, Tales of Dunk and Egg, and an animated prequel.

TV veteran Bruno Heller is developing 9 Voyages, aka Sea Snakes. From Variety, the show “would center on Lord Corlys Velaryon — known as the “Sea Snake” and head of House Velaryon, husband to Rhaenys Targaryen — on the Sea Snake vessel. The most well-known nautical adventurer in all of Westeros, Lord Corlys built a house even wealthier than the Lannisters and claims the largest navy in the world.” It is the most fully-formed of the three.

The other two are just ideas floating around the streaming platform’s walls. One of them is currently titled Flea Bottom, which is the name of the poorest neighborhood of King’s Landing, from which characters like Ser Davos Seaworth or Gendry, the bastard son of King Robert Baratheon came out. The last one, 10,000 Ships, will tell the story of Princess Nymeria and the surviving members of the Rhoynars, who traveled from Essos to Dorne following their defeat by the Valyrian Freehold in the Second Spice War. This happened 1,000 years before the events depicted in Game of Thrones. The name Nymeria might sound familiar – it is the name Arya Stark gave to her direwolf in the first episode of the series.

Interestingly enough, these three new shows mean that the platform would be developing at least five spin-off shows, which was the number reported a few years ago, even before the original show came to an end. However, they are not the same, as HBO reduced the number from five to now back then, and even that one, which was supposed to star Naomi Watts, was canned.

HBO Max is betting a lot of money on their existing IPs, and Game of Thrones was not going to miss the party. We will see for ourselves if it is worth the effort next year when House of the Dragon premieres.
