Emma Stone and Willem Dafoe Join Yorgos Lanthimos’ ‘Poor Things’
Emma Stone keeps adding things to her schedule.
Yorgos Lanthimos is bringing her back for his new project, after the actress delivered a performance that would grant her an Oscar nomination back in 2018’s excellent period piece, The Favourite. This is according to Deadline, who is also saying that four-time Academy Award-nominee Willem Dafoe is in talks to co-star in the picture, which will be titled Poor Things. From Deadline:
The film will be a Victorian tale of love, discovery and scientific daring, ‘Poor Things’ tells the incredible story of Belle Baxter, a young woman brought back to life by an eccentric but brilliant scientist.
Dafoe’s upcoming projects include The French Dispatch, from Wes Anderson, which was supposed to drop last October but was a victim of the pandemic and got delayed until this fall. He will also star in Robert Eggers’ The Northman, which wrapped principal photography a few months ago, so a festival run should be expected for it.
Emma Stone will next be seen in Disney’s Cruella, which was also a victim of the pandemic. Apart from that, she is supposed to star in a new series from the Safdie brothers, as it was reported back in December. Whether or not we’ll also see her in Spider-Man: No Way Home remains to be seen.
Poor Things sounds straight-up incredible and will most likely be another hit from an outstanding creator in Yorgos Lanthimos. Adding such talented actors does nothing but enhance that idea, although, given his track record at this point, my guess is that there is a long list of actors lining up to work for him. Having Emma Stone back is just good news all around, and it just makes you wonder who could be getting an Oscar nomination now. Probably the two of them will give incredible performances, so voting for both is not a bad option. Both Searchlight and Film4 will produce the movie.
Miguel Fernández is a Spanish student that has movies as his second passion in life. His favorite movie of all time is The Lord of the Rings, but he is also a huge Star Wars fan. However, fantasy movies are not his only cup of tea, as authors like Scorsese, Fincher, Kubrick or Hitchcock have been an obsession for him since he started to understand the language of filmmaking. He is that guy who will watch a black and white movie, just because it is in black and white.
