Gwendoline Christie Joins ‘Wednesday’, Netflix and Tim Burton’s Take on the Addams Family

Gwendoline Christie

Gwendoline Christie is leaving the armors behind and looking to get spooky.

The British actress is joining a cast which already contains big names such as Catherine Zeta-Jones and Luis Guzmán, who will play Morticia and Gomez Addams respectively. Jenna Ortega (Jane the Virgin) will be the teenage titular character. Gwendoline Christie is set to become Larissa Weems, a longtime rival of Morticia and principal of Nevermore Academy, where Wednesday will be studying. We can already see where this is going…

Netflix confirmed the news via Twitter, much like with past announcements:

Furthermore, the streamer has confirmed the full cast of series regulars: Issac Ordonez (Pugsley Addams), Victor Dorobantu (Thing), George Burcea (Lurch), Tommie Earl Jenkins (Mayor Walker), Iman Marson (Lucas Walker), William Houston (Joseph Crackstone), Luyanda Unati Lewis-Nyawo (Deputy Santiago), Oliver Watson (Kent), Calum Ross (Rowan), and Johnna Dias Watson (Divina). This can only mean the show is now getting close to full-blown production.

Christie will also be seen as Lucifer in Netflix’s take on Neil Gaiman’s The Sandman, which announced its full cast back in January and has a ten-episode order.

According to the series’ official synopsis, “Wednesday attempts to master her emerging psychic ability, thwart a monstrous killing spree that has terrorized the local town, and solve the supernatural mystery that embroiled her parents 25 years ago — all while navigating her new and very tangled relationships at Nevermore.”

Al Gough and Miles Millar serve as showrunners and executive producers, with Tim Burton directing and executive producing. Other executive producers include Steve Stark and Andrew Mittman for 1.21; Kevin Miserocchi of the Tee and Charles Addams Foundation; Kayla Alpert and Jonathan Glickman for Glickmania; and Gail Berman. Mittman, Berman, and Miserocchi already executive produced the 2019 animated Addams Family feature, and Glickman is an executive producer on the upcoming sequel. MGM Television is handling the production alongside Netflix.
