Catherine Zeta-Jones and Luis Guzmán Join Tim Burton’s Take on the Addams Family
Tim Burton’s vision for the Addams Family is starting to fill up its cast.
One of 2021’s biggest surprises so far dropped in February, when we learned (after some rumors) that Netflix had enlisted legendary oddball filmmaker Tim Burton to helm a live-action series that would explore Wednesday Addams’ spooky and unpredictable life as a student at Nevermore Academy. Smallville creators Al Gough and Miles Millar came up with the idea and are writing the show.
Burton’s television directorial debut is now beginning to recruit big names for its cast. In May, it was reported that Jenna Ortega (Jane the Virgin) would play the titular character of the show. Now, the new Morticia and Gomez Addams have been found:

These are huge, inspired catches if you ask me. Guzmán’s name had been thrown around for a couple of days before the official news dropped, but Zeta-Jones totally came out of the left field and pleased most fans hoping for an older yet as-sensual-as-ever Morticia. The actors worked together on Traffic (2000), so this is a reunion of sorts for them. Zeta-Jones has been sticking to TV for the last few years with Queen America and Prodigal Son. On the other hand, Guzmán has been quite active in both TV (Shameless) and theatrical features (Havoc).
Plot details for the coming-of-age series are still scarce, but the cameras should be rolling before the end of the year if the casting process has been going for at least three or four months. Let’s hope the rest of the cast is as exciting as these picks.
