Becky G Joins ‘Blue Beetle’; Xolo Maridueña Shares His Hope for Multiple Sequels and Crossovers

Blue Beetle

With all the talk surrounding The Flash, some may have forgotten about DC’s second feature film coming out this summer. This is Blue Beetle, which Ángel Manuel Soto is directing and Xolo Maridueña stars in. We’ve seen one trailer now, and the studio is probably just waiting for The Flash‘s campaign to run out before they start pumping real money into the campaign for the next one. (We wouldn’t be surprised if we got another Blue Beetle trailer to play in front of the Ezra Miller-led film.)

However, even before that happens, we are learning a few new details about the upcoming film. Maridueña is featured in the new issue of Empire Magazine where he tries to manifest future Blue Beetle appearances in live-action past the August 18 film:

“If we get one movie or a trilogy and fucking fold this into the Justice League shit, we’re ready for the whole nine. For me and Ángel [Manuel Soto, director] and the team, we kicked ass with this movie. It just depends on numbers.”

He then added how this felt like a big moment in both his and Soto’s life, and how they hope to inspire entire younger generations of Latinos and make them believe that they, too, can become superheroes:

“The goal was to create a movie for a young me and a young Ángel that said, ‘Hey, man, someone who looks like you or comes from a similar background can be a superhero.’ The second thing was to open more doors for people like us. As fun as it is to get into this superhero world where everything is [dialled up to] 110 per cent, [it’s] the characters… that I’ve [most] related to.”

And speaking of Latinx culture, music icon Becky G announced on social media that she will be voicing Khaji-Da in Blue Beetle, the Scarab that chooses Jaime Reyes to become the title character. After her video announcing her involvement with the film, she debuted a new spot for the film which mashed together new and old footage. Check it out here:
