Report: Andy Muschietti to Direct DC Studios’ ‘The Brave and the Bold’

As we enter the final stretch ahead of the release of the highly-anticipated The Flash, director Andy Muschietti may have found his next project for the DC Universe, the upcoming Batman project The Brave and the Bold.

There has been a ton of speculation for a few months about Muschietti being in the mix to direct the first Batman feature film in the forthcoming DCU, which James Gunn and Peter Safran are developing under the recently-created DC Studios. Now, One Take News claims to have heard from multiple sources that Muschietti is indeed Gunn and Safran’s choice to direct The Brave and the Bold, which has yet to attach any other creatives.

The film, still a few years away from release, would focus on the Bat-Family and would include Damian Wayne among other tie-in characters from the comics; Dick Grayson’s involvement was neither confirmed nor denied back when Gunn announced the film in late January. Additional story details are kept under wraps, but Gunn has indicated on social media that Bruce Wayne will be a few years older than Clark Kent in the DCU.

No actor search has begun as far as we know, but we wouldn’t be surprised if we learned who the DCU’s Batman will be sooner rather than later. Whether there is a story treatment for the film, we don’t know, but it’s confirmed that Superman: Legacy will include members from the DCU at large — Batman hasn’t been mentioned yet, but it’s something we can’t quite rule out yet. Gunn’s Superman film is currently looking for its Clark Kent and Lois Lane.

Muschietti’s involvement with The Brave and the Bold is not exactly surprising. The studio is very confident in The Flash, and James Gunn has repeated many times how much he loves the film, which includes two different iterations of Batman. Since a sequel to The Flash is likely not happening, it was a foregone conclusion that, as compensation, Warner Bros. Discovery would want to give Muschietti another project. The Brave and the Bold fits in perfectly with that.

The It director is currently busy with Max’s Welcome to Derry prequel series. When asked recently if he will be directing the film, he denied a response:

No release date has been set for The Brave and the Bold, but we know it will be the third theatrical feature film in the DCU, following Superman: Legacy, which bows on July 11, 2025, and The Authority, which doesn’t have a release date yet, or attached any creatives as far as we know.
