‘Blue Beetle’ First Trailer Revealed

Blue Beetle

The first official trailer for DC’s upcoming film Blue Beetle has been revealed.

Ángel Manuel Soto is directing, with Gareth Dunnet-Alcocer writing the script. The story is focused on young Jaime Reyes, played by Xolo Maridueña, who is looking for his place in the world after graduating from college. This is the first Hispanic superhero movie and is reportedly going to feature lengthy parts completely spoken in Spanish, though judging from the trailer, it seems like those won’t be too prominent. The official teaser poster was revealed back in December too:

Here is the official synopsis:

Recent college grad Jaime Reyes returns home full of aspirations for his future, only to find that home is not quite as he left it. As he searches to find his purpose in the world, fate intervenes when Jaime unexpectedly finds himself in possession of an ancient relic of alien biotechnology: the Scarab. When the Scarab suddenly chooses Jaime to be its symbiotic host, he is bestowed with an incredible suit of armor capable of extraordinary and unpredictable powers, forever changing his destiny as he becomes the Super Hero BLUE BEETLE.

The cast includes Adriana Barraza, Damían Alcázar, Elpidia Carrillo, Bruna Marquezine, Raoul Max Trujillo, Susan Sarandon, George Lopez, Belissa Escobedo, and Harvey Guillén.

Blue Beetle will be the third of four live-action DC films coming out in theaters this year. Early buzz around the film promises a warm and heartful story about family, and is quite positive overall. The film has a lot of potential for an excellent box office performance, having next to no direct competition within weeks after its release in mid-August. But it could also fall behind because of a packed early summer, which also includes another big DC blockbuster in The Flash, among others.

Blue Beetle will buzz into theaters on August 18.
