‘Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3’ Beams First Trailer

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 - Rocket

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 has finally shared its first trailer. James Gunn is back as the sole writer and, of course, director of the Marvel threequel.

First of all, watch the long-anticipated first preview below:

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 arrives after a Marvel Studios “special presentation” in the shape of last week’s Holiday Special, which had the Guardians celebrating and learning about Christmas in unexpected ways (stay tuned for our review).

That special already packed a couple of major surprises, so Vol. 3 — which is being described as these Guardians’ last installment together — will probably be a lot to digest. Writer-director James Gunn has certainly teased as much, and we’re sure he’ll be riding into the Marvel sunset with a powerful threequel… before he gives DC Films all his attention for the foreseeable future.

The official Marvel Studios accounts also shared an unsurprisingly gorgeous first poster to accompany this first trailer. Check it out here:

Chris Pratt (Peter Quill / Star-Lord), Zoe Saldana (Gamora), Dave Bautista (Drax), Vin Diesel (Groot), Bradley Cooper (Rocket), Karen Gillan (Nebula), Pom Klementieff (Mantis), Sean Gunn (Kraglin / on-set Rocket), Elizabeth Debicki (Ayesha), Sylvester Stallone (Stakar Ogord), and Maria Bakalova (Cosmo) all return for Vol. 3 and are joined by newcomers Chukwudi Iwuji (The High Evolutionary), Will Poulter (Adam Warlock), and The Suicide Squad sensation Daniela Melchior in an unknown role.

Henry Braham returned to handle the cinematography after working with Gunn on Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 and The Suicide Squad, with composer of the latter John Murphy taking over the original soundtrack from Tyler Bates. Also coming in fresh from The Suicide Squad has been production designer Beth Mickle.

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 opens on May 5, 2023, and will be the second film of the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s Phase 5, which will kick off on February 17 with Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania — check out a new special look that just came out here.
