‘Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania’ Director on Kang the Conqueror’s Impact on the MCU Going Forward

Ant-Man and The Wasp: Quantumania - Scott meets Kang

Kang is coming. That much we know about Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania and the rest of the Multiverse Saga slate. Jonathan Majors is about to take over the entire Marvel Cinematic Universe.

The character, featured in a new image released by Empire Magazine’s new issue, will have a deep impact on the main MCU narrative going forward, as Quantumania director Peyton Reed told Empire:

“I think it has a profound impact on the MCU. Jeff Loveness, who wrote this movie, is writing ‘The Kang Dynasty’ as well, so there’s been a lot of discussion about the impact that this appearance of Kang The Conqueror makes. There are big things in store.”

Majors already played a variant of the character in the Loki season 1 finale, referred to as He Who Remains. But Kang is very different from that character, as Reed teased:

“Kang The Conqueror in our movie is a very different character. He’s someone who has dominion over time, and he’s a warrior and a strategist.”

It was definitely an interesting choice when it was reported back in 2020 that the Ant-Man threequel would have the tiny Avenger face off against one of the most powerful characters in the Marvel Comics roster. To Reed, that was actually quite exciting:

“That’s interesting to me: to take the tiniest, and in some people’s minds weakest, Avenger, and put them up against this absolute force of nature.”

As opposed to Thanos, who appeared in Guardians of the Galaxy and had a cameo in the Avengers: Age of Ultron post-credits scene, Kang will be making a grand entrance in Quantumania and is then expected to appear in several other MCU movies and shows leading up to The Kang Dynasty in 2025. Or at least variants of his are. Loki season 2 will likely feature him in some capacity, and there have been rumors of the actor popping up in multiple projects coming out soon. For now, we know that we will have him in theaters in less than three months.

Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania releases in theaters on February 17, 2023. If you haven’t already, you can check out its teaser trailer here:
