Scarlett Johansson and Chris Evans to Team Up for Apple TV Plus’ ‘Project Artemis’, by Jason Bateman

Scarlett Johansson and Chris Evans will be sharing the screen again in a non-Marvel movie.

Apple has won the bidding war, paying over $100M for the hot package, which consists of a Jason Bateman-directed movie starring the two actors, titled Project Artemis. Rose Gilroy wrote the script, which is rumored to be set in the backdrop of the space race, though details are scarce at this point. Deadline first reported the news, and Chris Evans went on to confirm them on Twitter:

This is not the first time Apple has landed a Johansson-Evans project, as the two were supposed to team up for an adventure movie, from Rocketman director Dexter Fletcher, titled Ghosted. Scarlett Johansson eventually had to depart due to scheduling issues, with Ana de Armas replacing her. That movie is currently filming. The Cuban actress already worked with Chris Evans on Knives Out and The Gray Man, from the Russo Brothers — it is supposed to be released on Netflix later this year.

Bateman is already an established director, as he directed eleven episodes of Netflix’s Ozark, which he also stars in and executive produces, and two of HBO’s The Outsider. The fourth and final season of the former series will air its second half later this month.

Apple became one of the hottest studios in town this week, after they were the first streaming service to finally win Best Picture at the Academy Awards. CODA was of course the movie that did it for them, and the tech company’s film division is not planning on slowing down. Last year, they paid over $200M for Matthew Vaughn’s new movie Argyle and Brad Pitt’s untitled Formula 1 movie. Later this year, they will also release Martin Scorsese’s highly anticipated Killers of the Flower Moon, which will most likely give them another Best Picture nomination; Antoine Fuqua’s Emancipation, which will see Will Smith playing a slave (and probably taking another shot at a Best Actor nomination should the Academy not suspend his membership); and Taron Egerton’s Tetris.
