‘Ironheart’ To Introduce the First Transgender Character in the MCU
Apparently, the upcoming Ironheart Disney Plus series will introduce the first transgender woman in the MCU.
This comes to us from a new report by POC Culture that may hint at some details about a new character that will be introduced in Ironheart. Here’s what they had to say:
One of the characters that will be introduced in the upcoming Ironheart Disney+ series is going to be a Black, Latina or Afro-Latina transgender character, which would be the first transgender woman in the MCU.
According to the casting information that was sent to us, the character is portrayed as she/her, is around 18-22 years old, and is a Black, Latina or Afro-Latina transgender woman.
The character will be smart, confident and with a mystical bent and unique sense of humor. She’s also described as unapologetically nerdy about things that excite her…even if they might be terrifying to others.
With Phase 4, Marvel Studios is going all-in on representation. Eternals featured the first openly gay superhero in any Marvel movie, as well as the first deaf superhero on screen. While their sexuality was never openly discussed, Hawkeye hinted at a possible relationship between Yelena and Kate Bishop. Loki was confirmed to be genderfluid in season one of the Disney Plus show, which also confirmed that Sylvie is bisexual. Thor: Love and Thunder is rumored to explicitly address Valkyrie as queer. And now, Ironheart will introduce the first transgender character in the cinematic universe.
The series, which found its lead in Dominique Thorne as Riri Williams, is set to begin filming in June in Atlanta. The character will first be introduced in this year’s Black Panther: Wakanda Forever. Anthony Ramos will play a key role in the series, which will also feature This is Us‘ Lyric Ross. A 2023 release date on Disney Plus is more than likely.
Miguel Fernández is a Spanish student that has movies as his second passion in life. His favorite movie of all time is The Lord of the Rings, but he is also a huge Star Wars fan. However, fantasy movies are not his only cup of tea, as authors like Scorsese, Fincher, Kubrick or Hitchcock have been an obsession for him since he started to understand the language of filmmaking. He is that guy who will watch a black and white movie, just because it is in black and white.
