‘Game of Thrones’ Spin-off ‘House of the Dragon’ Set for August 21 Debut, New Images Released
HBO has announced that the first Game of Thrones spin-off series House of the Dragon will premiere Sunday, August 21. It will air its ten episodes weekly, one at a time. They have also released a new set of official images and character descriptions.
On top of that, the streamer has released the first teaser poster for the series, which you can check out below:
The Game of Thrones prequel series already debuted a teaser trailer back in October, but did not have a release window set back then. HBO and HBO Max Chief Content Officer Casey Bloys told Deadline last month that they were being cautious with their release plans for House of the Dragon, as the pandemic had already caused them a few delays. He said:
“One of the reasons why we’re trying to be cautious about it is when you’re shooting a show that big during a pandemic, especially with the last round [with] a lot of crew and cast members… you didn’t know who was going to drop out or if we’re going to have to shut down so we just didn’t want to declare a date and then find ourselves shut down. Now that we are out of production, I think that we will talk to their guys and figure out what we want to do in terms of announcing a date. But I was just trying to make sure that we didn’t come out with a date that we couldn’t meet for something that was out of our control.”
Here is the new set of images released by HBO today, along with character descriptions:
House of the Dragon will be set 200 years before the events of Game of Thrones. It will tell the story of House Targaryen, introducing a whole new set of characters. The main cast is made up of Paddy Considine, Matt Smith, Olivia Cooke, Emma D’Arcy, Steve Toussaint, Eve Best, Sonoya Mizuno, Fabien Frankel, and Rhys Ifans. Recurring members also include Milly Alcock, Bethany Antonia, Phoebe Campbell, Emily Carey, Harry Collett, Ryan Corr, Tom Glynn-Carney, Jefferson Hall, David Horovitch, Wil Johnson, John Macmillan, Graham McTavish, Ewan Mitchell, Theo Nate, Matthew Needham, Bill Paterson, Phia Saban, Gavin Spokes, and Savannah Steyn.
It is officially based on George R. R. Martin’s Fire & Blood. The writer is also credited as co-creator and executive producer. Ryan Condal acts as co-creator, co-showrunner, executive producer, and writer. Game of Thrones veteran Miguel Sapochnik is the other co-showrunner, as well as an executive producer and a director on the series. Sara Hess is a writer and executive producer too. Greg Yaitanes is a director and a co-executive producer. Other executive producers include Jocelyn Diaz, Vince Gerardis, Ron Schmidt. As for directors, the list also includes Clare Kilner and Geeta V. Patel.
Miguel Fernández is a Spanish student that has movies as his second passion in life. His favorite movie of all time is The Lord of the Rings, but he is also a huge Star Wars fan. However, fantasy movies are not his only cup of tea, as authors like Scorsese, Fincher, Kubrick or Hitchcock have been an obsession for him since he started to understand the language of filmmaking. He is that guy who will watch a black and white movie, just because it is in black and white.
