Bruce Willis Retires From Acting After Being Diagnosed With Aphasia

Two-time Emmy-winning actor Bruce Willis will be retiring from acting due to a medical condition.

Willis’ family released a statement on Wednesday, explaining that he’ll stop working following the diagnosis of aphasia, a language disorder that will affect his ability to speak, write, and understand language, both verbal and written. Here is what they said:

“To Bruce’s amazing supporters, as a family we wanted to share that our beloved Bruce has been experiencing some health issues and has recently been diagnosed with aphasia, which is impacting his cognitive abilities. As a result of this and with much consideration Bruce is stepping away from the career that has meant so much to him.

This is a really challenging time for our family and we are so appreciative of your continued love, compassion and support,” the statement continues. “We are moving through this as a strong family unit, and wanted to bring his fans in because we know how much he means to you, as you do to him.
As Bruce always says, ‘Live it up’ and together we plan to do just that.”

While Bruce Willis’ career may have had some rough patches during the past few years, the actor will always be remembered for his iconic role as John McClane in the Die Hard movies. A sixth installment had been talked about recently, but it never really took off. He also had an iconic performance in Quentin Tarantino’s Pulp Fiction, as well as M. Night Shyamalan’s Unbreakable and Glass, in which he reunited with Samuel L. Jackson. And those are just some examples from an incredibly rich career.

We wish him the best.
