‘Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special’ Rumors May Hint at What To Expect From James Gunn’s Latest Extravaganza
Filming for the Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special is currently taking place in Atlanta, and some rumors and set photos may give us some hints at what we should expect.
James Gunn has been passionately describing his newest television special featuring the Guardians of the Galaxy for a while. After posting a picture of the cover of the script last year, trying to show some early enthusiasm for the project, Gunn told Collider in January that everyone that had read the script for the Holiday Special was in love with it. He also told Radio Times recently that it is the best thing he’s ever done, a phrase he also used to describe his DC movie The Suicide Squad.
We will have to wait and see if it is as amazing as he makes it out to be, but while we do, here are some details that leaked online over the last few days. Now, if you want to go in fresh, make sure to stop reading here. There may be some minor spoilers ahead.
A post on the subreddit r/MarvelStudiosSpoilers hinted recently that the Guardians may be returning to Earth, as the crew decorated one of the sets to “look like a Beverly Hills neighborhood at Christmas”, which features “several banged up Beverly Hills police cars” that are from the 90s or 00s. Gary Peebles, who is Dave Bautista’s stunt double was spotted on set, and, perhaps the most interesting part, apparently Kevin Bacon, one of Star-Lord’s biggest heroes, was on set as well.
The Direct has since acquired pictures taken on set that seem to match some of the descriptions from the Reddit post, in particular about a car being upside down, with stunt seats used to suspend the actors. Check them out:
The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special is set to debut on Disney Plus during Christmas 2022, though a more specific date is not clear yet.
