Moon Knight will give us the MCU’s first superhero with a mental illness. Previous teasers had already given us glimpses of Oscar Isaac putting on some interesting accents, and that is because Marc Spector suffers from dissociative identity disorder (DID). When not dressed up as Moon Knight, Spector uses his four other identities to gather information in places that his superhero alter ego can’t infiltrate.

In the source material, those personalities traditionally include a billionaire businessman called Steven Grant, a cab driver called Jake Lockley, a red-haired little girl called Inner Child, and a suited consultant simply called Mr. Knight. Isaac is no stranger to huge franchises, considering his role in Star Wars, but it is easy to see how the possibility of playing as many as five or six different personalities over the course of an entire series could have enticed him into joining the MCU.

In the comics, Moon Knight follows the story of Marc Spector, former marine and CIA agent who becomes an extremely skilled and highly paid mercenary. After nearly getting killed by a fellow mercenary, Spector is brought to the unearthed tomb of the Egyptian moon god Khonshu while he clings to life. Khonshu revives Spector as he passes away, wishing him to become the “moon’s knight,” redeeming himself and his life of morally ambiguous violence by henceforth protecting the innocent.

Moon Knight will debut on Disney Plus March 30th.
