Jamie Lee Curtis Joins ‘Borderlands’ Cast

Jamie Lee Curtis in Knives Out

Jamie Lee Curtis is the latest addition to an already impressive core cast for the film adaption of the Borderlands video game franchise.

According to Deadline, Curtis will play Dr. Tannis, a scientist and archaeologist who apparently possesses a key to Pandora’s Vault full of advanced technology, a place the four main “vault hunters” are searching for. The group currently includes Cate Blanchett’s Lilith and Kevin Hart’s Roland.

Pandora is the planet on which Borderlands is set, and the games each involve a different group of vault hunters looking to gain access to the tech, and presumably riches, inside. Meanwhile, extreme space capitalism and the savage inhabitants of Pandora are also a problem. While Kevin Hart looks to be taking a surprise turn as a serious action hero, don’t expect Jamie Lee Curtis to play a similarly unexpected role in the film.

No one else has yet been cast in the film, but we have known for a while it will be directed by Eli Roth (Hostel) and produced by Avi Arad and Ari Arad, in partnership with Erik Feig. Randy Pitchford, CEO of Gearbox Entertainment, the company behind the Borderlands franchise, will serve as executive producer.

Jamie Lee Curtis, whose most recent feature film was 2019’s Knives Out, is set to reprise her role as Laurie Strode in the next two Halloween films: Halloween Kills and Halloween Ends. The former film has already been completed, but Curtis will presumably be busy filming the latter this year, with a tentative release date somewhere in 2022. Perhaps she will be available to film Borderlands once her Halloween commitments are over and done with, although she might be able to shoot her scenes in Roth’s film if the role isn’t too big and the cameras are rolling soon.

No release date has been confirmed for Borderlands yet, but it is expected to release in either 2022 or 2023.
