‘Game of Thrones’ Spin-Off ‘Knight of the Seven Kingdoms’ Casts Peter Claffey and Dexter Sol as Dunk and Egg

With the new season of the first Game of Thrones spin-off about to come out, the network is already focused on its next venture, Knight of the Seven Kingdoms: The Hedge Knight (hopefully its working title).

HBO announced today that Peter Claffey will be playing Dunk in the new series, while Dexter Sol has been cast as Egg, Dunk’s little esquire who goes on country-wide adventures with him but who is secretly Aegon V Targaryen. Claffey was a part of the cast of Apple’s Bad Sisters, while Sol was most recently seen as young Coriolanus Snow in The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes.

George R. R. Martin and Ira Parker are writers on the show, as well as EPs. Also executive producing are Ryan Condal, Vince Gerardis, Owen Harris, and Sarah Bradshaw. Here is the official logline:

“A century before the events of ‘Game of Thrones,’ two unlikely heroes wandered Westeros… a young, naïve but courageous knight, Ser Duncan the Tall (Claffey), and his diminutive squire, Egg (Ansell). Set in an age when the Targaryen line still holds the Iron Throne, and the memory of the last dragon has not yet passed from living memory, great destinies, powerful foes, and dangerous exploits all await these improbable and incomparable friends.”

The hope is to film the series this year (more specifically they are set to start in Belfast in June, according to Daniel Richtman), in order to get it out in 2025, probably in the latter half. It would be one of multiple high-profile HBO series coming next year, along with new seasons of The Last of Us and The White Lotus. Euphoria season 3 was once announced for 2025, but current behind-the-scenes delays have put that into question.

House of the Dragon proved to be a massive success for HBO in 2022, and the network quickly accelerated their plans for future seasons as well as other Game of Thrones tie-ins. A sequel series focused on Jon Snow was reported to be in the works almost two years ago, but it’s been crickets since. HBO is also working on another prequel that would tell the story of Aegon’s conquest of six of the Seven Kingdoms.

House of the Dragon season 2 premieres June 16 on HBO.
