Ryan Coogler, Michael B. Jordan Mystery Pic Casts Up: Delroy Lindo, Jack O’Connell Join Ahead of Production Start

Ryan Coogler Michael B Jordan

The untitled genre thriller from Ryan Coogler and Michael B. Jordan is finally gaining some momentum. After being sold to Warner Bros. in a very interesting deal, the movie will start filming in New Orleans this month, and now they’re getting more actors attached to it.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Delroy Lindo is set to play a role in the film, though details are pretty scarce. So far, THR could only find out that there is a musical element to his part. That is enough, however, to convince us that this movie will be as unconventional as it gets. The rumors, which THR included but haven’t been confirmed by the studio or the filmmakers (who are trying ot cast a veil of secrecy around it), say that it will be set in the Jim Crow-era South of the US, with Michael B. Jordan playing twin roles and will feature vampires hunting down the Ku Klux Klan. And Coogler/Jordan want to make it a running franchise too!

Jack O’Connell is apparently in talks to play the white supremacist villain, Deadline reported. Coogler wrote the script and will also produce via Proximity Media. O’Connell’s role was very much wanted by young Hollywood, the report says, which indicates the level of behind-the-scenes excitement that is surrounding this project. Warners is prepared to give it the full scale of a blockbuster, having assigned it to their prime early-March spot where this year they dropped Dune: Part Two and a couple of years ago they had The Batman.

In their deal, for which they bested competitors like Universal, there is a clause under which the rights to the IP will revert back to Ryan Coogler and his family after 25 years. It’s a pretty unique package, especially considering the level of interest that there is for it — and for new IPs as well.

Delroy Lindo is mostly known for the Netflix pic The Harder They Fall and came really close, according to pundits, to getting an Oscar nomination for Spike Lee’s Da 5 Bloods. He was once supposed to star in Marvel’s Blade, but after multiple creative overhauls, that doesn’t look likely anymore. O’Connell is set to play Amy Winehouse’s husband in the upcoming film Back In Black, and was last seen in Michael Mann’s Ferrari.

The untitled project is set for a March 7, 2025, theatrical release.
