Brad Pitt and Quentin Tarantino Reuniting for ‘The Movie Critic’

Brad Pitt and Quentin Tarantino

Quentin Tarantino is knee-deep into prepping The Movie Critic, his tenth and supposed final film. The hot package first leaked into the press around a year ago, but it’s now starting to come together. According to Deadline, Brad Pitt would be a part of the movie, though they couldn’t confirm if he will be playing the lead.

The story is set in 1977, and is “based on a guy who really lived, but was never really famous, and he used to write movie reviews for a porno rag.” Tarantino’s first job as a teenager was loading up vending machines with porn magazines and taking the quarters out of the cash dispenser. He told Deadline last year that he once started to read a specific rag with a rather interesting movie page, where a critic that Tarantino liked wrote snarky reviews.

Rumors from last year had the lead of the film as a 35-year-old, which would rule out Pitt. However, according to Deadline, Tarantino spent a big part of last year rewriting the script, which is partly why we haven’t heard much about it since then (combined with the Hollywood strikes, of course). Tarantino also lives in Israel, so recent world events might have been made a priority over making his movie.

Then there’s the issue of who’s backing the film. While he couldn’t confirm it, Deadline‘s Mike Fleming Jr. speculates that Sony Pictures will be once again distributing a Tarantino film, after doing good by him on Once Upon a Time In Hollywood. This being Tarantino’s last film, it’s been widely speculated that he will be lining up quite a killer lineup of actors who want to work with him one last time. Brad Pitt, who worked with him in Inglorious Basterds and won an Oscar for Once Upon a Time In Hollywood, would fall under that category.

However, as The Hollywood Reporter noted, Pitt is tied up with Apple’s Formula 1 pic for a good chunk of the year — which is itself surprising considering the movie has been in production in the UK for months now. Deadline says The Movie Critic would be targeting a 2025 release, so filming would have to begin this fall.
