Tyler Perry is returning this February with a brand-new Netflix film titled Mea Culpa, which gives out a lot of Fifty Shades of Grey vibes with its sexually-charged look — though removing some of the more submissive stuff, at least from the trailer. At least there seems to be something resembling a story here.

Check it out here:

This is the official synopsis for the film:

“When criminal defense attorney Mea Harper (Kelly Rowland) takes on the murder case of artist Zyair Malloy (Trevante Rhodes), the truth isn’t as obvious as it seems. While she tries to determine the innocence or guilt of her cagy-yet-seductive client, it is uncovered that everyone is guilty of something. Tyler Perry’s ‘Mea Culpa’ explores what happens when burning desire takes hold and things get hot… and dangerous.”

Mea Culpa will be out on Netflix on February 23. Given the trailer, this could turn out to be a fun watch, or a rather unbearable one; it’s hard to know what to make of it yet. At least the name Trevante Rhodes piques my interest…
