‘Deadpool 3’ Wraps Shooting, Ryan Reynolds Confirms

Deadpool 3

The long-in-development Deadpool 3 has finally wrapped production in the UK, Ryan Reynolds announced with a social media post on Wednesday. The film had completed half of the production by the time SAG-AFTRA went on strike on July 13. During the five-month work stoppage, director Shawn Levy was said to have edited that footage. Filming resumed through the end of November, and it finally wrapped this week.

This is Ryan Reynolds’ Instagram post:

The film will mark the first time the Merc With a Mouth is distributed by the Disney banner and Marvel Studios. It’s going to be the only Marvel Cinematic Universe film of the year, set for a July 26 release date.

All things considered, it was a pretty fast shoot. Production began in the second half of May 2023, and in less than two months, they were able to shoot half the film. It’s now been two months since they got back to work, including a two-week holiday break. In total, it was less than four months of shooting, which for a movie of this scale is rather surprising. Plus, it feels like we’ve been getting leaked pictures from the same snowy setting for so long. Did they even film more than one sequence?

Our first look trailer at the film is expected to come during the Super Bowl, an advertising stop that Marvel Studios typically likes to take for their big May movie — this year, they have only one, in July, but it’s still safe to say that they will be sparing no expenses with this one. Internal buzz seems to be pretty positive, and the late July release window boded well for Oppenheimer and Barbie last year. Both movies were able to ride a viral marketing campaign, which Ryan Reynolds knows a thing or two about.

Besides Deadpool 3, which could also get an official title soon, Marvel Studios is set to release an animated X-Men ’97 series on Disney Plus, as well as the Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man and Eyes of Wakanda animated series. The Kathryn Hahn-fronted Agatha series (with whatever subtitle they have these days) is supposed to arrive around October.

Meanwhile, in 2024, Marvel hopes to get Captain America 4 into (extensive) reshoots. Thunderbolts is also supposed to start shooting in April, and Matt Shakman’s Fantastic Four, which should be announcing its cast sooner rather than later, is also reportedly filming in Q3 of this year — hinting that the targeted May 2025 date is going to be complicated to hit. And of course, as always, there’s Blade
