‘Dune Part Two’ Latest Trailer Is as Epic as Sci-Fi Gets

Dune Part Two

Warner Bros. released today the third trailer for Dune: Part Two, confirming the new March 1 release date and giving us the best look yet at the epic scale of Denis Villeneuve’s adaptation of the second half of Frank Herbert’s book.

The story, which Villeneuve has said will mostly act as a love story between Paul Atreides (Timothée Chalamet) and Chani (Zendaya), will bring in a lot of new characters and feature most of the cast of the first movie. Check it out in full here:

This is the first trailer we’ve had since the summer strikes and thus since the movie was pushed off its November original date. Warner Bros. timed it to coincide with the premiere of Wonka on Friday, so that fans eager to see more of Timothée Chalamet have something on their minds to look forward to.

In addition to the trailer, World of Reel reported earlier this week that the film will clock in at 2h 46min, 10 minutes longer than Part One.

With Dune: Part Two, the story of Frank Herbert’s 1965 novel will be complete. However, Paul Atreides’ story continued in the sequel book, Dune: Messiah, which Villeneuve said back in 2021 he’d love to adapt. Well, apparently it went well beyond that. It was reported earlier this year that Chalamet had signed a deal to return for a third Dune film, and Villeneuve teased once again in August that a trilogy was possible.

Earlier this week, he confirmed to Variety that the script for the threequel is nearly complete, but he doesn’t think that will be his next movie, as he’s looking for a break from Arrakis. He said:

“For me, this film is much better than Part One. There’s something more alive in it. There’s a relationship to the characters. I was trying to reach for an intensity and a quality of emotions that I didn’t reach with Part One and that I did reach with Part Two. I’m not saying the film is perfect, but I’m much more happy with Part Two than I was with Part One. I can not wait to share it with the fans and the moviegoers.”

But jury’s still out on Villeneuve’s next film. He signed on years ago to do an adaptation of Rendezvous With Rama, and there’s still that Cleopatra movie he was reportedly developing years ago. World of Reel had reported earlier this year that Zendaya would be playing the title character on that project, with Chalamet also on board. However, Villeneuve’s reps denied the story and it was taken down. So it’s safe to assume we can cross that off his list.

Dune: Part Two opens in theaters on March 1, 2024.
