‘Alien’ FX Series Sets Main Cast

Alien FX series

The main cast for FX’s Alien series from showrunner Noah Hawley has been confirmed by Variety.

The trade reports that, in addition to previously-reported Sydney Chandler (lead), Timothy Olyphant, Alex Lawther, Essie Davis, David Rysdahl, Samuel Blenkin, Kit Young, and Adarsh Gourav, there are six new names added to the roster. They are Babou Ceesay, Jonathan Ajayi, Erana James, Lily Newmark, Diêm Camille, and Adrian Edmondson.

Apparently, Chandler is set to play Wendy, a hybrid/meta-human with the brain and consciousness of a child but the body of an adult. Olyphant will play Kirsh, a synth who mentors her. Blenkin plays a CEO named Boy Kavalier, Davis stars as Dame Silvia, Gourav as Slightly, Young as Tootles, and Alex Lawther as a soldier named CJ.

The series will be set in the same continuity as the original films, but removed in the past from them. It will be the first Alien story to be set on Earth and in a not-so-distant future. The show was able to shoot for a month in Thailand after SAG-AFTRA went on strike, using members of the British union, Equity.

The hope is to resume filming at the top of the year, now with the full ensemble. Half of the shoot will be in Bangkok, and half in New York, as Hawley recently told Deadline. He added: “I got some footage. Some of the first hour was shot before we had to shutdown. It’s stuff to play with and edit.”

The Alien series, which Ridley Scott executive produces, is set on the same timeline as the original films, but in the past — approximately 70 years in our future. It will also be the first story in the franchise set on Earth. It is a separate project from the already-wrapped Untitled Alien Film from Fede Álvarez starring Cailee Spaeny, which Disney has dated for August 2024.

No release date has been announced, but production should run through the majority of 2024.
