‘Alien’ FX Series From Noah Hawley Signs Timothy Olyphant to Star

Timothy Olyphant joins Noah Hawley's Alien series at FX

With season 5 of Fargo now behind him, Noah Hawley has his mind set on his next project, the long-in-development Alien series for FX. In fact, the show was forced to suspend shooting in Asia earlier this summer due to the SAG-AFTRA strike, but the hope is for them to restart soon.

Deadline reports that Timothy Olyphant, star of HBO’s Deadwood who also had a recurring part in Hawley’s Fargo season 4, is the latest name to be added to the cast of the show after Sydney Chandler joined earlier this year.

Apparently, Chandler is set to play Wendy, a hybrid/meta-human with the brain and consciousness of a child but the body of an adult. Olyphant will play Kirsh, a synth who mentors her. Other cast members include Samuel Blenkin as a CEO named Boy Kavalier, Essie Davis as Dame Silvia, Adarsh Gourav as Slightly, Kit Young as Tootles, and Alex Lawther as a soldier named CJ.

Production on the untitled Alien series began in Thailand on July 19, a few days after the SAG-AFTRA actors went on strike. Hawley was able to shoot for a month with UK’s Equity-affiliated actors, but was then forced to shut down. Neither Chandler nor Olyphant have been on set yet. The network expects to start shooting in January/February 2024.

The new series, which Ridley Scott executive produces, is set on the same timeline as the original films, but in the past — approximately 70 years in our future. It will also be the first story in the franchise set on Earth. It is a separate project from the already-wrapped Untitled Alien Film from Fede Álvarez starring Cailee Spaeny, which Disney has dated for August 2024.
