‘Superman: Legacy’ Casts Skyler Gisondo as Jimmy Olsen and Sara Sampaio as Eve Teschmacher

Superman Legacy
The Superman: Legacy cast continues to grow as The Hollywood Reporter revealed that Skyler Gisondo (The Righteous Gemstones) has been cast as Superman’s pal Jimmy Olsen, and Deadline revealed that Sara Sampaio (Crisis) has been cast as Lex Luthor’s beleaguered secretary Eve Teschmacher.

Jimmy Olsen is one of Clark Kent and Lois Lane’s closest friends and a fellow worker at The Daily Planet, the go-to newspaper in Metropolis. While usually a fanboy of the Man of Steel, Olsen has occasionally dipped into superpowered antics himself, which is something that has never been explored in the realm of film. This is actually not the first comic book movie role for Gisondo, as he played one of Gwen Stacy’s younger brothers in the two The Amazing Spider-Man movies in 2012 and 2014.

Eve Teschmacher is a character originally created for 1978’s Superman: The Movie as a somewhat sympathetic assistant for Lex Luthor, and one who ultimately betrays her boss to save Superman so that he can put a stop to Luthor’s diabolical real estate scheme involving the use of nuclear weapons. Since then, alternate versions of the character have appeared in the pages of DC Comics, along with shows like Smallville and Supergirl. For Sampaio, this is her most high-profile project; one of her other well-known appearances thus far is on a single episode of Showtime’s Billions.

Rounding out the Superman-focused portion of the cast for Superman: Legacy are David Corenswet as Clark Kent/Kal-El/Superman, Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane, and, most recently, Nicholas Hoult as Alexander “Lex” Luthor (although he has yet to officially sign on). It’s been reported by Jeff Sneider that still to be cast are Lois’s father General Sam Lane, Clark’s adoptive parents Jonathan and Martha Kent, and Clark’s biological father Jor-El (with no word on whether or not his biological mother, Lara Lor-Van, will also factor into the story). Other Superman characters are rumored or speculated to be involved, such as Perry White and the other staff at The Daily Planet, Krypto the Superdog, and possibly Brainiac as the overarching villain of the film.

An abundance of other DC Universe characters have also been cast for Superman: Legacy, including Isabela Merced as Hawkgirl of the Justice League, Edi Gathegi as Michael Holt/Mister Terrific of the Justice Society, Nathan Fillion as Guy Gardner of the Green Lantern Corps, Anthony Carrigan as Rex Mason/Metamorpho of the Outsiders, and María Gabriela de Faría as Angela Spica/Engineer of StormWatch (a casting that will carry over into a planned spin-off film The Authority). It is not clear which version of Hawkgirl Merced will be portraying, as multiple heroines have assumed the identity, including Shiera Sanders, Sharon Parker, Shayera Thal, and Kendra Saunders.

Superman: Legacy is set to begin filming in March for a July 11, 2025 release date. The film will be written and directed by James Gunn and produced by Gunn and Peter Safran.
