‘Deadpool 3’ Reveals First Official Look at Wolverine in Yellow Suit

The first official image from Deadpool 3 has been revealed, featuring Ryan Reynolds as the Merc With a Mouth next to Hugh Jackman, reprising his role as Wolverine, but this time wearing the iconic, comic-book-accurate yellow suit.

The picture originally came from a story posted on Instagram by Hugh Jackman, so the resolution leaves much to be desired, but was later reposted by the official Deadpool Twitter account. The timing is also interesting, as it comes out just a couple of days after The Hollywood Reporter broke news about Jennifer Garner coming back as Elektra for a cameo in the upcoming film. The film had long been rumored to feature a long string of returning cast members from the 20th Century Fox Marvel movies, but a major trade spotlighting such an unlikely appearance just opened the doors to so much speculation.

Wolverine wearing his iconic yellow suit in the film has also been part of the rumor mill for a few weeks, but we were far from any official confirmation. It is the first time Jackman will be wearing it, 24 years after he first portrayed the role of Logan. It made a brief appearance in a deleted scene from James Mangold’s The Wolverine, but Jackman never took it out of the box it was in.

Shooting is currently happening in London, and should continue well into the summer after starting in May. Shawn Levy reunites with Ryan Reynolds after working together on The Adam Project and Free Guy. Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick are also back as screenwriters from the previous two films, but they are not alone. THR confirmed in their report that Zeb Wells, Levy, and Reynolds will also receive writing credits on the film. Since shooting is taking place while the WGA is on strike, Reynolds and his entire team are legally forbidden from improvising any lines during filming (which would qualify as additional writing on the script, a no-go under strike rules).

The threequel will bring back most of the main cast from the previous two films, except for, interestingly enough, Zazie Beetz as Domino and Josh Brolin as Cable. It is set to be a multiversal story that will pay homage to most of Fox’s Marvel efforts before the company was acquired by Disney, with rumored appearances by Ben Affleck’s Daredevil (we’ll see about that, considering the actor-director’s recent career moves), Patrick Stewart’s Professor X, and Ian McKellen’s Magneto.

The story is supposed to take place right after the events of the Deadpool 2 post-credits sequence, which saw the title character use Cable’s time-traveling machine to correct several mistakes throughout the multiverse. That will supposedly trigger several warnings at the TVA. We know Owen Wilson’s Agent Mobius is a part of the story after the actor was spotted near the set.

Deadpool 3 will arrive in theaters on May 4, 2024.
