‘Priscilla’: First Trailer Revealed for Sofia Coppola’s Priscilla Presley Biopic, Starring Cailee Spaeny

Last year we had Baz Luhrmann’s Elvis, and now we have Sofia Coppola’s Priscilla. It is certainly a fascinating time to be alive if you are interested in a deep exploration of the Presley family through the lens of bold and daring filmmakers.

A24 released on Wednesday the first official trailer at Priscilla, which stars Cailee Spaeny in the titular role, with Jacob Elordi stepping in as Elvis. In Luhrmann’s film, the roles were respectively played by Olivia DeJonge and Austin Butler. Butler started to generate some real buzz around town for his performance, and was also cast at the time of the Elvis release in Dune: Part Two. Spaeny is currently filming Fede Álvarez’s Alien movie, in which she is the lead.

The film, written and directed by Sofia Coppola, is based on Priscilla Presley’s 1985 memoir Elvis and Me. Check out the first trailer here:

According to Variety, the studio would be looking into showing the film at the Venice Film Festival this September, where films like Michael Mann’s Ferrari, Yorgos Lanthimos’ Poor Things, Pablo Larraín’s El Conde or Michael Franco’s Memory would also play. Luca Guadagnino’s Challengers could also screen there, though out of competition.

Here is the official synopsis for the film:

When teenage Priscilla Beaulieu meets Elvis Presley at a party, the man who is already a meteoric rock-and-roll superstar becomes someone entirely unexpected in private moments: a thrilling crush, an ally in loneliness, a vulnerable best friend. Through Priscilla’s eyes, Sofia Coppola tells the unseen side of a great American myth in Elvis and Priscilla’s long courtship and turbulent marriage, from a German army base to his dream-world estate at Graceland, in this deeply felt and ravishingly detailed portrait of love, fantasy, and fame

Priscilla debuts in theaters this October.
