The first trailer for the next film from Call Me By Your Name and Bones and All director Luca Guadagnino has been revealed. The film is a sports drama starring Zendaya, who plays a former tennis player-turned-coach and who is as fierce and strong-minded on the court as she is outside it.

The film could be a major player in Oscar season, even if MGM isn’t traditionally the best studio when it comes to FYC campaigns. Sight unseen, Zendaya and Mike Faist could be contenders in their respective acting categories, though there are obviously a lot of movies still to be released. Here is the first trailer:

Check out the official synopsis:

“From visionary filmmaker Luca Guadagnino, ‘Challengers’ stars Zendaya as Tashi Duncan, a former tennis prodigy turned coach and a force of nature who makes no apologies for her game on and off the court. Married to a champion on a losing streak (Mike Faist – ‘West Side Story’), Tashi’s strategy for her husband’s redemption takes a surprising turn when he must face off against the washed-up Patrick (Josh O’Connor – ‘The Crown’) – his former best friend and Tashi’s former boyfriend. As their pasts and presents collide, and tensions run high, Tashi must ask herself, what will it cost to win.”

Guadagnino directs from a screenplay by Justin Kuritzkes. Amy Pascal, Luca Guadagnino, Zendaya, and Rachel O’Connor are producers, while Bernard Bellew is executive producer. The cast includes Zendaya, Josh O’Connor, and Mike Faist. MGM is distributing in the US while Warner Bros. picked up the international distribution rights.

Challengers debuts in theaters on September 15.
