Linda Hamilton Joins ‘Stranger Things’ Season 5
Netflix has announced that Linda Hamilton will be joining the cast of Stranger Things season 5, the concluding chapter of the long-running and highly-successful series.
The announcement came during Saturday’s Tudum event, Netflix’s own celebration of its own programming, filled with announcements and first looks. It was too early to show anything from the fifth season of the Hawkins-set show, especially since filming was unable to begin due to the writers’ strike. However, the producers were able to close a deal with the Terminator star and she got the chance to announce it herself when she beamed in via a video included in the livestream and shown to in-person audiences in São Paulo, Brazil.
The video was introduced by her Terminator co-star Arnold Schwarzenegger, who besides being recently appointed as Netflix’s Chief Action Officer, was there to announce a renewal of his action-comedy series FUBAR. Check it out:
The fourth season of the series was split into two parts of six and three episodes, which premiered in late May and early July 2022, respectively. Audiences tuned in and made it the most-watched season of TV in the English language in Netflix’s history of original programming. The series spent 19 weeks in the streamer’s top 10 of most-watched shows, original or not.
The Terminator and Schwarzenegger himself have been referenced throughout the show, but never Linda Hamilton herself. She joins a long list of actors who thrived during the 1980s, from Winona Ryder to Matthew Modine, Sean Astin, and Paul Reiser, to name a few. Details on her role are being kept under wraps, but we expect it to be a significant part, given the big announcement that she got.
Stranger Things was supposed to get into production later this year, possibly aiming at a 2024 release, but the writers’ strike has paralyzed those plans. By the time they are able to go back in front of the cameras, it will likely have become a 2025 title.
Miguel Fernández is a Spanish student that has movies as his second passion in life. His favorite movie of all time is The Lord of the Rings, but he is also a huge Star Wars fan. However, fantasy movies are not his only cup of tea, as authors like Scorsese, Fincher, Kubrick or Hitchcock have been an obsession for him since he started to understand the language of filmmaking. He is that guy who will watch a black and white movie, just because it is in black and white.
