A24 has picked up the North American distribution rights to John Crawley’s We Live in Time, starring Andrew Garfield and Florence Pugh, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

The pic is currently filming in London, with StudioCanal producing (Ron Halpern, executive VP of global production, and Joe Naftalin, senior VP of global production, overseeing) along with Benedict Cumberbatch’s Sunny March. Film4 and StudioCanal are co-financing. Plot details are kept under wraps, but Variety reported in March that it will be a “funny, deeply moving and immersive love story”. Nick Payne wrote the script.

Pugh and Garfield presented the two screenplay awards during the last Oscars ceremony, though according to Pugh in an interview with Jimmy Fallon, the Academy paired them up without knowing they would be working together shortly after that:

“You know what’s crazy is that … they didn’t know we were doing a movie together. Well, I don’t think they did. But this was, I think, a bit of an accident. Which is even weirder!”

US Magazine posted the following picture from the London set in early April:

Florence Pugh has a busy 2023; after co-starring in Zach Braff’s A Good Person, which debuted in March, she has key roles in both Christopher Nolan’s Oppenheimer, where she plays Jean Tatlock, a member of the Communist Party who had an affair with the title character, and Denis Villeneuve’s Dune Part Two, where she plays Princess Irulan, daughter of Emperor Shaddam. After wrapping on We Live in Time, she will be heading back to the Marvel universe to play Yelena Belova in Jake Schreier’s Thunderbolts.

At the same time, this is Andrew Garfield’s first film role since Spider-Man: No Way Home. After his FX series Under the Banner of Heaven, he decided to take a break from acting, which apparently lasted for a bit over a year. Besides We Live in Time, he recently signed up to play Carl Sagan in Sebastián Lelio’s Voyagers.

No release date has been set for We Live in Time.
