‘Fast X’ Will Now Have Two Sequels, Vin Diesel Confirms Shift in Plans

Fast X

Vin Diesel confirmed on Friday a shift in the original plan to end the Fast & Furious franchise in an interview at the Fast X premiere in Rome.

Initially, Fast X was going to be the first of a two-part finale. According to Viesel, after seeing a cut for the latest film, the studio asked for a trilogy. Via Variety, here’s what the actor said:

“Going into making this movie, the studio asked if this could be a two-parter. And after the studio saw this one, they said, ‘Could you make “Fast X” the finale, a trilogy?’”

Michelle Rodriguez then added:

“It’s three acts in any story.”

Louis Leterrier (Now You See Me) stepped in to direct Fast X a few days after production started, a year ago, when Justin Lin departed the project over disagreements with the direction of the film. Leterrier will return for the sequel, which was confirmed at CinemaCon to be called Fast X — Part Two… for some reason. Rodriguez teased in an interview with Vanity Fair earlier this year that the movie will end on a massive cliffhanger that will leave fans thirsty for more:

“I’ve got to say, there’s a lot of nostalgia there, but, at the same time, I think that people are going to be shocked at how we end this first movie. Because it is not really an ending, but it’s also like, ‘You can’t do this to us. We’re your die-hard fans, you can’t do this to us!’ You’re going to feel so cheated in a way, but then so gratified and excited about what’s to come. I can’t divulge more than that, but get ready for a shocker. After 23 years of shooting these things, it’s really tough at this stage to shock me, and they got me good.”

Fast X — Part Two has been dated for a 2025 release. Meanwhile, Fast X races into theaters worldwide on May 19.
