Juno Temple in Talks To Play Female Lead in ‘Venom 3’

Juno Temple joins Venom 3

Emmy-nominated actress Juno Temple is currently in talks to join Tom Hardy in the upcoming Venom 3, Deadline reports.

Character details are being kept under wraps, as is the story for the third film, but Deadline describes the part as the female lead of the film. Hardy is returning as Eddie Brock, though it’s unknown who else is coming back. Michelle Williams had a supporting role in both films, with Woody Harrelson playing Carnage in a post-credits scene of the first one and causing lots of trouble in the second installment.

Kelly Marcel, who wrote the first two films, is co-writing the third one with Hardy, and will also be the director. Venom opened in theaters in October of 2018 and grossed $856M worldwide. It was the first film in Sony’s universe of Spider-Man characters, and following its success, a sequel was immediately fast-tracked… and the studio started to build up the franchise. So far, it also includes last year’s critically-panned Morbius, and will soon add the Aaron Taylor-Johnson-starrer and J.C. Chandor-directed Kraven the Hunter, coming out this October, and next year’s Madame Web, starring Dakota Johnson, Sydney Sweeney, and Adam Scott (S.J. Clarkson directs). Jonás Cuarón is also supposed to direct a film starring Bad Bunny titled El Muerto, though development is fully stalled at this point.

Juno Temple is currently starring in the third and final season of Ted Lasso; the series already gave her two Emmy nominations for her role in the first two seasons, and the third one could follow suit come July. She is also playing the lead role in Fargo season 5, which is about to wrap shooting, and appeared in last year’s The Offer, currently streaming on Paramount Plus.

With CinemaCon happening later this month in Las Vegas, we could get more details into the future of the Sony universe of Marvel characters, as well as the first footage of Kraven the Hunter. A preview of Madame Web for the audience there could also be in place. We know that Sydney Sweeney is playing Spider-Woman in the film, and Olivia Wilde was confirmed a while ago to be making a Spider-Woman solo film; we could find out whether it is still happening, and if so, whether Sweeney will be the film’s protagonist. Sony is also in development of two live-action series that will be streaming on Amazon Prime; they are Silk and an untitled Spider-Man Noir film. The next Spider-Man-centric project coming out from Sony will be this June’s (animated) Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse.

Venom 3 could go into production as soon as this summer/early fall, possibly aiming at another October release next year.
