The end of the road for the Fast and Furious franchise is near. That much the teaser posters released so far have been teasing, and that’s the main message the new trailer for Fast X conveys too.

Directed by Now You See Me‘s Louis Leterrier, the tenth installment of the franchise, and the first of a two-part finale for the saga, just dropped its first official trailer, which you can check out below. In addition to bringing back the main cast from the last film, the new entry also added Jason Momoa as Dante, the main antagonist of the film, Brie Larson as Tess, a rogue representative from the Agency, Alan Richtson as Aimes, the new head of the Agency who is not as fond of Dom’s crew as Kurt Russell’s Mr. Nobody, Daniela Melchior as a Brazilian street racer with a powerful tie to Dom’s past, and legendary Oscar winner Rita Moreno as Dom and Mia’s Abuelita Toretto.

Speaking to Empire Magazine as part of the forthcoming issue, director Louis Leterrier teased the overall story of the film:

“There’s a war brewing. It’s coming to an end, and it is a race to the finish. There will be some tremendous casualties.

People are going to need to take sides. Alliances will need to be made. Good guys will become bad guys, bad guys will become good guys.”

Brie Larson Fast X

He added that his main approach to the globe-trotting film was to bring it back to earth, quite literally, and using real stunts to drive the action:

“I’m more practical than other directors, and I brought it back to earth. We went for real stunts, which we’re enhancing with visual effects. We shot in LA, London, Rio, Portugal. We blew up Hummers flying around Rome. There’ll be some iconic imagery in this one. You will see: as long as Dom Toretto is behind the wheel of a car, there’s nothing he cannot do.”

He also gave the following description of Momoa’s villain, Dante:

“He’s an incredible new character. It’s 1,000 per cent Momoa.

They are bad news, but one is more afraid than the other. One is worse news than the other.”

He didn’t forget about Larson’s Tess, when he teased the following:

“When you have fought so hard to keep your faith and protect your family, and literally change the world, which is the case of Dom Toretto, there is a price to pay… His enemies are coming after him. There’s a total sum of enemies that are coming after him.”

Fast X Jason Momoa

From Universal, here is the official synopsis for the film:

Over many missions and against impossible odds, Dom Toretto (Vin Diesel) and his family have outsmarted, out-nerved and outdriven every foe in their path. Now, they confront the most lethal opponent they’ve ever faced: A terrifying threat emerging from the shadows of the past who’s fueled by blood revenge, and who is determined to shatter this family and destroy everything—and everyone—that Dom loves, forever.

In 2011’s Fast Five, Dom and his crew took out nefarious Brazilian drug kingpin Hernan Reyes and decapitated his empire on a bridge in Rio De Janeiro. What they didn’t know was that Reyes’ son, Dante (Aquaman’s Jason Momoa), witnessed it all and has spent the last 12 years masterminding a plan to make Dom pay the ultimate price.

Dante’s plot will scatter Dom’s family from Los Angeles to the catacombs of Rome, from Brazil to London and from Portugal to Antarctica. New allies will be forged and old enemies will resurface. But everything changes when Dom discovers that his own 8-year-old son (Leo Abelo Perry, Black-ish) is the ultimate target of Dante’s vengeance.
