‘Avengers: The Kang Dynasty’ Hires ‘Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania’ Writer Jeff Loveness

Avengers: The Kang Dynasty
Avengers: The Kang Dynasty has found its writer in the form of Jeff Loveness, who previously worked with Marvel Studios on the forthcoming Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania.

Deadline broke the news that Loveness has been selected to write the direct follow-up to his story in Quantumania, which will prominently feature Kang the Conqueror (played by Jonathan Majors) as a major antagonist. Given that Kang is a time-travelling supervillain with multiversal variants, it makes sense to have a writer who has a handle on where the character last was pick up the next major story with him in it. An alternate version of Kang, known only as “He Who Remains”, was previously introduced at the end of Loki season 1 by writer Michael Waldron, who worked on Rick and Morty like Loveness. The film is currently set to release on May 2, 2025.

Loveness will work alongside director Destin Daniel Cretton, who is also set to direct an untitled sequel to Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings and executive produce a film based on the Marvel Comics IP Wonder Man (no relation to Wonder Woman from DC Comics) before he takes on an Avengers film. The Kang Dynasty is also set to lead into the sixth Avengers film, Secret Wars, which is currently set to release on November 7, 2025, an occasion which is the first time two Avengers movies release in the same calendar year.

Unlike previous pairs of Avengers films, with The Avengers and Avengers: Age of Ultron being written and directed by Joss Whedon, and Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame being written by Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely, and directed by Joe and Anthony Russo, different creative teams are being selected to handle the two massive crossovers. No writing or directing talent has yet been selected for Avengers: Secret Wars, and Marvel chose not to talk about either film at the Disney D23 Expo.
