‘The Morning Show’ Casts Nicole Beharie as New Season 3 Anchor

As The Morning Show starts production on season 3, a new series regular has been added.

Deadline is reporting that Nicole Beharie, from Miss Juneteenth and Scenes From a Marriage, will be playing Christina Hunter, “a grounded, competitive, and charismatic millennial who is a new anchor on The Morning Show.” They add: “Christina works hard, plays hard, and navigates the Teacup with good-humored irreverence.” She joins previously-confirmed new series regular Jon Hamm, who will play Paul Marks, “a corporate titan who sets his sights on UBA, pulling Cory (Billy Crudup), Alex (Jennifer Aniston), and Bradley (Reese Witherspoon) into his powerful orbit.”

The Morning Show follows the lives of the three protagonists listed above as they try to put together America’s most popular morning show while they navigate a company filled with sexual assault allegations in the middle of the #MeToo era. The second season, in addition to still dealing with the #MeToo movement, also saw our characters dealing with the early days of the COVID-19 pandemic.

In its first season, it received eight Emmy nominations and won for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Drama Series (Billy Crudup, who gives an acting masterclass in every frame he’s on-screen). Season two received three Emmy nominations earlier this year, all of them for acting: Reese Witherspoon as Outstanding Actress in a Drama Series, Crudup as Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Drama Series, and Marcia Gay Harden as Outstanding Guest Actress in a Drama Series.

Filming started earlier this month, possibly aiming at a late 2023 release on Apple TV Plus. Charlotte Stoudt is taking over from Kerry Ehrin as the showrunner of season 3, a deal that was signed under her overall deal with Apple. Mimi Leder is returning as director.

Nicole Beharie will next be seen in Breaking, opposite John Boyega and Michael K. Williams.
