‘Succession’ Season 4 Confirmed To Bring Back Alexander Skarsgård, 8 More Actors Returning

Succession season 4 bringing back Alexander Skarsgård

Nine actors have been added to the returning cast list for the fourth season of Succession, which is currently filming.

The initial cast announcement was published by HBO back in June, when filming started on the new season, but key players in the show were suspiciously left out. Most importantly, perhaps, is Alexander Skarsgård, who was introduced in season 3 but who is set to play a major role in the fourth season, according to the plot synopsis released by HBO. Skarsgård, who according to Deadline is now confirmed to be returning, plays tech CEO Lukas Mattson, who is on the verge of buying Waystar Royco at the end of season 3. The aforementioned plot synopsis for the new season of Succession confirmed that this will come into play in the fourth entry:

“In the ten-episode season four, the sale of media conglomerate Waystar Royco to tech visionary Lukas Matsson moves ever closer. The prospect of this seismic sale provokes existential angst and familial division among the Roys as they anticipate what their lives will look like once the deal is completed. A power struggle ensues as the family weighs up a future where their cultural and political weight is severely curtailed.”

Also returning is Dagmara Domińczyk, who plays Waystar Royco head PR and legal team member Karolina Novotney. She was a recurring character in season 1 that was promoted to series regular in subsequent seasons. Arian Moayed, who people might now recognize from Spider-Man: No Way Home and Ms. Marvel, is coming back as Stewy Hosseini, Kendall’s frenemy who is usually there to cause havoc and watch the house burn down. Other characters from Kendall’s world that are returning are his assistant Jess Jordan, played by Juliana Canfield, and his love interest Naomi Pierce, played by Annabelle Dexter-Jones. And she is not the only member of the Pierce family returning, as Cherry Jones, who plays the matriarch of the family, Nan, is coming back as well. Hope Davis, who played Sandy Furness’ daughter Sandi Furness in season 3, is coming back as well. Wrapping up, Justin Kirk returns as controversial right-wing Congressman Jeryd Mencken who earned ATN’s endorsement in season 3, possibly setting up more political maneuvering for the Roy family and Shiv in particular, and finally, Stephen Root comes back as Ron Petkus, the organizer of the Future Freedom Summit.

The first footage of the Succession season 4 premiered earlier this week inside a video promoting HBO Max’s content for the rest of the year and 2023. While no release date has been set, HBO head Casey Bloys has confirmed that the new season will be eligible for the 2023 Emmy Awards, meaning it will come out in the first half of the year. The third season is now the most nominated of any television program this year, with 25 mentions, setting a record for the number of actors nominated from a single season of television (14). They include, besides the main cast, Skarsgård, Davis, and Moayed.
