‘The Boys’ Season 4 Adds Jeffrey Dean Morgan

Production on The Boys season 4 started on Monday, and today, Amazon Studios has announced that The Walking Dead actor Jeffrey Dean Morgan has joined the new season.

Details on his character are under wraps at the moment. Morgan is reuniting with The Boys showrunner, Erik Kripke, after the two worked together on Supernatural. This marks the second actor from that show transitioning into the hit Amazon series after Jensen Ackles joined season 3 as Soldier Boy. Morgan had teased earlier this year on social media that he would try harder to have a cameo in The Boys, possibly foreshadowing his involvement in the fourth season.

Morgan, mostly known for playing Negan in The Walking Dead, has also been in Zack Snyder’s Watchmen and Batman v Superman, as well as series like Grey’s Anatomy and The Good Wife. He is also set to star in a sequel series to the aforementioned zombie show at AMC centered around his character.

As far as The Boys season 4 goes, Amazon announced earlier this summer the addition of Valorie Curry as the superhero Firecracker, and Susan Hayward, who will play Sister Sage. In addition, Cameron Crovetti, who plays Homelander’s son Ryan, was officially promoted as a series regular for season 4, hinting at more father-son dynamics between Ryan and Homelander, following up on that chilling season 3 finale.

The cast confirmed to return includes Karl Urban (Butcher), Jack Quaid (Hughie), Karen Fukuhara (Kimiko) Anthony Starr (Homelander), and Chace Crawford (the Deep). The announcement of season 4 back on June 10 also teased the return of Erin Moriarty (Annie/Starlight), Jessie T. Usher (A-Train), Laz Alonso (M.M.), Tomer Capone (Frenchie), and Claudia Doumit (Victoria Neuman). Dominique McElligott, who plays Queen Maeve, had a clear exit written down for her in the season 3 finale, though we expect that she’ll be back as the Boys come closer to taking down Homelander. Jensen Ackles, who also had a clear exit after the season 3 finale, recently teased his return as Soldier Boy.

No release date for season 4 has been announced, though with production already underway, it could hit Prime Video in the last quarter of 2023.
