‘Avatar: The Way of Water’ Reveals First Look at Kate Winslet’s Character
After releasing the first teaser trailer less than two months ago, Avatar: The Way of Water continues with its marketing push to announce James Cameron’s return to cinemas.
Empire Magazine has some exclusive coverage of the movie as part of their August cover issue. The movie will see the reunion between Kate Winslet and her director on Titanic. Empire is revealing that she will be playing a Na’vi warrior named Ronal (pronounced ‘Ro-nail’). Along with Cliff Curtis’ Tonowari, Ronal leads the Metkayina tribe, who dwell in the shallows of Pandora’s vast oceans – and will play a major part in the upcoming adventure. Both of them can be seen in the picture above.
Winslet said the following about her character:
“She is deeply loyal and a fearless leader. She is strong. A warrior. Even in the face of grave danger, and with an unborn baby on board, she still joins her people and fights for what she holds most dear. Her family and their home.”
Avatar: The Way of Water will see Sam Worthington’s Jake and Zoe Saldaña’s Neytiri forced to leave their home and travel to Metkayina’s waterworld, something that will originate some tension between the tribes.
Winslet also said the following about her reunion with Cameron:
“Jim and I are both totally different people now to who we were 26 years ago. He is calmer, and I am definitely more hyperactive now!”
The new role required her to shoot a lot underwater, and Winslet took that assignment very seriously. The actress told Empire that she was able to stay underwater for seven minutes and fourteen seconds. She added:
“The most amazing thing for me as a middle-aged woman was to learn something not just new, but superhuman.”
