Sigourney Weaver Plays a Teenage Na’vi in ‘Avatar 2’, Adoptive Daughter of Jake and Neytiri
Plot twist! After years of speculation about what role would Sigourney Weaver be playing in Avatar 2 (given that her character in the 2009 film was killed off), Empire Magazine is exclusively revealing that she will be none other than Jake and Neytiri’s teenage adoptive daughter, named Kiri.
Weaver told Empire that this was a chance to get her inner child out:
“I think we all pretty much remember what we were feeling as adolescents. I certainly do. I was 5’ 10” or 5’ 11” when I was 11. I felt strongly that Kiri would feel awkward a lot of the time. She’s searching for who she is. I was thrilled to be given that challenge by Jim.”
Cameron was very aware of the technological and acting challenge they took on with this approach, as he told the magazine:
“As an acting challenge, it’s big. We’re gonna have a 60-something actor playing a character [decades younger than] her actual biological age. Sig thought it was all kinds of fun.
Sigourney just became younger. She looked younger, she had more energy, and she never quite stepped out of Kiri for our whole capture period. She had a glow on her face and lightness in her step and a fun spirit.”
Kiri is the third new character revealed by Empire so far, after they debuted the first look at Kate Winslet’s Ronal (pronounced ‘Ro-nail’), and Cliff Curtis’ Tonowari. More content from Avatar 2 will be coming in the next few days, leading up to the release of the August issue next Thursday. We also wouldn’t be surprised if this was tied to a new trailer that would play in front of Thor: Love and Thunder next week. This is an approach Disney already took two months ago, when they released the teaser trailer in front of Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.
Avatar: The Way of Water will debut in theaters on December 16. Sam Worthington and Zoe Saldaña are back in the lead roles. Stay tuned for more!

However, fantasy movies are not his only cup of tea, as authors like Scorsese, Fincher, Kubrick or Hitchcock have been an obsession for him since he started to understand the language of filmmaking. He is that guy who will watch a black and white movie, just because it is in black and white.
