‘Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness’ Undergoing Last-Minute Changes, Says Bruce Campbell

Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness

According to Bruce Campbell, the new Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, which his lifelong friend Sam Raimi directed, is still being updated with some last-minute changes that Marvel Studios requested.

Campbell recently participated in a Q&A with Game Informer to promote the upcoming Evil Dead video game, in which he voices Ash Williams, the character that defined his career. When asked about Multiverse of Madness, he said:

“The Marvel guys, they make eight of these movies at the same time, so they’re always updating storylines. So, my buddy Sam [Raimi] has had to add scenes that [Marvel] told him he had to shoot, and he’s removed scenes that no longer apply. So until May rolls around I don’t think Benedict Cumberbatch even knows if he’s in this movie or not.”

The actor will be making a cameo in the film, as he did for all Spider-Man movies by Sam Raimi. It is not really surprising, though, that Marvel Studios is making last-minute updates to the final film. Doctor Strange 2 will probably define the MCU going forward, and since the studio has a lot of projects in the pipeline, it’s not rare for them to need to make slight changes to the film so that their new ideas make sense in the long run.

At this point, we are pretty used to having Marvel change plans constantly, especially with this movie. Let us remember that Multiverse of Madness, originally announced in 2019, was going to be directed by Scott Derrickson and be released in May 2021, well before Spider-Man: No Way Home. Of course, after shifting directors and suffering delays due to the pandemic, the order of release changed. That caused, among other modifications, for Jacob Batalon’s Ned to be the sorcerer’s apprentice in No Way Home, instead of the original plan, which was to use América Chávez.

Chávez will make her theatrical debut in Multiverse of Madness, played by Xochitl Gómez. The main cast also includes Benedict Cumberbatch in the title character, Elizabeth Olsen as Wanda Maximoff/The Scarlet Witch, who is said to have a co-lead role in the film, Rachel McAdams as Strange’s former love interest Christine Palmer, Chiwetel Ejiofor as Mordo, and of course, Benedict Wong as Wong, who participated in a recent promo for Tide.

After Doctor Strange, the next Marvel Studios project out will be the new Disney Plus show Ms. Marvel, starring Iman Vellani as Kamala Khan/Ms. Marvel. To celebrate that we are less than 50 days away from the release of the show, on June 8th, the streamer released a brand-new poster:
