‘Nova’ Project in the Works at Marvel Studios
Nova will be coming to the MCU.
Deadline has learned that a Nova project is in the works at Marvel Studios from Moon Knight writer Sabir Pirzada. The character has been in the cards for many years, but it looks like it’s now happening. Not much else is known about the project, including its format — Deadline does not know whether it will be a movie or a Disney Plus series. It’s possible we’ll get more details about this and more projects to come during this year’s San Diego Comic-Con.
In the comics, Nova is as cosmic of a character as it gets. He was a member of the Nova Corps, an intergalactic police force of sorts that would patrol the Marvel Universe, for which he gained superhuman abilities. The Nova Corps have already appeared in the MCU, in the Guardians of the Galaxy movies. It is unknown if the character will be appearing in an upcoming project first, but Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 or The Marvels certainly present a great opportunity for his introduction.
Marvel Studios seems to be creating stars out of the creative minds they hire for their Disney Plus shows. WandaVision director Matt Shakman was handed a Star Trek movie after the success of his series. Jac Schaeffer, who wrote that show, was given a spin-off series at Marvel Studios, Agatha: House of Darkness. Kari Skogland, who directed The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, is directing Cleopatra next, starring Gal Gadot — and Malcolm Spellman, creator, and writer of that same series, is currently developing Captain America 4.
Loki screenwriter Michael Waldron is also the scribe of Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, Marvel Studios’ biggest crossover event since Avengers: Endgame. He is also writing Kevin Feige’s Star Wars movie. In addition, Pirzada is not the only Moon Knight creative to have been rehired by Marvel Studios, as Justin Benson and Aaron Moorhead, who directed the second and fourth episodes of the upcoming series, were recently tapped to direct the majority of Loki season 2.
