Russell Crowe Joins ‘Kraven the Hunter’ Movie From Sony and Marvel

Russell Crowe

Russell Crowe joins previously-announced star Aaron Taylor-Johnson in the next movie in the Sony-Marvel universe.

The Hollywood Reporter reported yesterday that the Academy Award-winning actor has joined the upcoming Kraven the Hunter, set to bow in theaters in January 2023. While details are scarce at this point, THR is saying that many of the film’s characters are set to be family members.

J.C. Chandor is directing the film from a screenplay by Art Marcum (Uncharted), Matt Holloway (Masters of the Universe), and Richard Wenk (The Equalizer). Avi Arad and Matt Tolmach are producing. No other cast members have been reported so far. Production should begin soon if they are to meet their set January 2023 release, so more names could be announced in the coming weeks.

This will not be the first superhero movie featuring Russell Crowe, as the actor previously appeared in Zack Snyder’s Man of Steel (2013) as Jor-El, and accidentally revealed last year that he would be playing Zeus in Marvel Studios’ Thor: Love and Thunder, from Taika Waititi.

The next movie in line from Sony and Marvel is Jared Leto’s Morbius, which finally arrives on April 1st (though it may still be a joke). A third Venom movie would be in development as well, though it is uncertain how big of a role Marvel Studios will play on that one, given the first post-credits scene of Spider-Man: No Way Home. In addition to Kraven, which would not shock anyone by moving back a few months in 2023, Sony has reserved other two release dates (June 23 and October 6) for their movies featuring Marvel characters in 2023. One of them might be occupied by Madame Web, which recently found its lead actress in Dakota Johnson. The other one may be for the animated Spider-Man: Across The Spider-Verse (Part 2), as Part 1 is releasing later this year.
